Not a problem, but maybe if you see something in future you could PM me rather that stick it out in public view, just in case I have messed up

Re: Creating the spooky Keyhole - Eye image

No one wants to go first then eh ?

Right I`ll get the ball rolling, someone has too

I`ve gone for a different look, [ hope that`s ok ], and used Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 and Micrografx Picture Publisher 8.
[ I don`t like Photo Shop, too modern for me I`m afraid, bah humbug ]

The available methods for the cutting out are pretty much the same but I did mine by hand for this one to pick up the rougher edges of the keyhole,

used a Chrome filter to give a liquid metal effect overall for an other worldly/ alien-ish feel,

tweaked the contrast to bring up the wood grain,

then a tweak to bring up the colours to my liking to add depth for the liquid metal notion,

selected a strip of wood, copy/pasted it a few times, repositioned those strips and altered length and width of them then tinted those redder to give a sort of claw marks suggestion,

Switched to Micrografx to use the light studio to give a suggestion of a mild light source coming from the right hand side

back to DI Pro 10, for the eye I selected the centre and used a distortion effect to make it a swirl

That`s my lousy version of technical explanation I`m afraid

Re: Creating the spooky Keyhole - Eye image

Nice one Patch,

I especially like the swirly eye

When I started editing photos, I used to use Paint Shop Pro, I had Elements because It came with my 300D but never used it.

However, slowly but surely I started to use Elements, then the full blown PS, mainly because of some of the tools not in PSP (Curves was one of the main ones).

Nice picture though, hope you found the guide useful.

All the best,
Alan.
