It was a case of focus, click............................................. .........clunk, followed by a blurry image! I understand the DSLRs dont come cheap, but maybe you can concentrate on stills for now. Focusing on composition and exposure. Thanks
Sorry I wasn't very clear in my original post that it's a p&s...but it does have manuel capabilities. I want to work on getting the best action & stills I can while learning the techniques until I can afford better. Your advice was great regardless of camera, so thank you for that

Re: Best shutter speed for running dog...

No, it was my fault! I skimmed over the camera model! I tend to read the bones of a post. Bad habit I guess!

I did notice that your in the Midlands. So you cant be more than 2hrs out from me, so if you ever want to meet up, im happy to give you some lessons on my camera and spare D50. Fire me a PM and we can sort something out! x

Re: Best shutter speed for running dog...

Thanks Daisy Chains, I may well take you up on that

Thanks all for your tips, I went on the walk today and I know they're not SLR and I'm not expecting that, but I think they're better. These are some of the better action shots I got...they're in better focus at least!

I know I still have work to do, mainly getting down to their level, but I'm hopeful I can get at least decent shots as I practice more.

Re: Best shutter speed for running dog...

From experience, i tend to use 1/600 if i want nice sharp images, and 1/400 if i want a bit of motion in there. It all depends on the light available too, but with a camera that handles bad light well, with good ISO, it shouldn't be a problem.
