Re: wot is this skull?

Do you still have it? I can't tell it's size from the pic, although if you are considering badger or deer it must be big! From what I can see of the molars and premolars there seems to be some sort of carnassial shear there, so something carnivorous and probably predatory (as opposed to a scavenger). Points against that theory are the lack of cranial ridge (animals that have to bite to kill larger prey, chew through skin and tough muscle need very strong jaws, they usually have a ridge running along the top of the skull to give extra place for the jaw muscles to attach to the skull. So, it the mystery critter eats meat, it must concentrate on smaller things like rats (sorry Zoundz), mice and rabbits. (If the teeth that are left are sharp, he's not insectivorous - they have flattened back teeth for grinding up carapaces.) The zygomatic arch is underdeveloped so it's something does probably does not use its skull for defense (ie male deer).
The size of the eye socket relative to what is left of the skull suggest something nocturnal.
Can you have another look at the teeth and give some idea of the size/shape of them and the size of the skull?

Re: wot is this skull?

My guess would be fox? Karl said that it looks like badger skulls he's dealt with in the past. If you could get a photo of the jawline and teeth sockets... Could even be someone's pet dog... you think of the variation in dog skulls.
