Intersting idea for a local photography club

For those belonging to a local photography club....

if you want a level playing field as far as submissions, you may love this idea for yours… Disposable.
This is a city competition for several photography clubs. Everyone is issued a disposable camera..no editing, no software...one subject..you will have 27 tries to get it right.

5 photos taken each hour..perhaps not the same subject but the same theme.
Then they are judged according to the subject you chose as a series.

Sounds a hoot!
(I must have rocks in my head...but have entered.)
We have used disposable underwater cameras for 20 years..so perhaps I have an edge? Not likely!
But with new lenses in both eyes and no glasses yet? Disposable cameras may be the best option.

Re: Intersting idea for a local photography club

It is a good idea, and i will suggest it to my club as a possible theme night. I did attend a club whose guest speaker failed to turn uo, so the club chairman gave a talk using images he had taken with a small compact camera.

It was illuminating, as his skills as a photographer showed its not all about high end kit.

good luck with the competition.

Sounds like a good idea Sharon, I would think any of the older folk that were brought up on film will have an advantage, but it will be interesting to see the results for sure.

Good luck

Well that would be me .. I started out using black and white film.
Color film was unheard of then.

Re: Intersting idea for a local photography club

We had an incredible day..40 participants..over 1000 pictures taken..and the grand unveiling is tomorrow night.
What a hoot!We had a phone call every hour giving us our next hour's theme.

After searching forever for my last blue shot, I settled for a blue marquee and waited on a bench for my next theme.
Realized I was looking at a blue canopy..advertising blueberries on a bright blue sign..tons of delicious blueberries..and the topper?
The vender was wearing a blue shirt..oh crap!

Re: Intersting idea for a local photography club

Interesting concept, but the downside was that the Gallery cropped each entry so the image was a square. (That was was so they could get five images across and five down on each poster.)
Composition was lost as well as technical merit.

One of the pro's images had cropped off heads, one of mine I had taken of newlyweds embarking on a river cruise...had only the boat insignia...because the theme of that hour was the blue seen on the sign.

It was a project to promote "Photography Art" and yet the curator of the gallery..not a photographer..chose to do this.

Many of the pro's knew to get up close and personal, eliminating unnecessary elements..so there were still some amazing shots..and obvious winners.

Just a reminder.."fill your frame"!
