Some pics I've taken... any advice/criticism welcome :)

I'm really new at taking pictures. I don't even have a proper camera yet but I'm just going to keep posting here so that I can learn what I can do to get better. Yes I know some of them are horribly out of focus, SORRY! I hope to get better. I struggle constantly with pet eye on indoor flash photography, can anyone maybe help me with this?

Actually, I don't think they are Horribly out of focus. Probably closer than your lens will focus but not by much. I guess you're using a point and shoot? Sanyo S770? Built in flash being so close to the axis of the lens will cause red eye, so not much you can do about it really. As for sharpness, do you use photo shop or similar image editing software? If so you can apply some sharpening after you have reduced the size of the picture to post, or save for web with sharpening factored in (Bi Cubic Sharp)

Otherwise, I'd say you are doing fine

Good shots!

Hi MJ.

Some nice images here MJ, i especially like Pic 2 & 5.
Im fairly new to normal photography myself, on the subject of `Pet eye` when using the built in flash, it may be worth trying to slightly cover up the flash with your finger or something and reflect the light off another object, a wall for example, so its not directly flashing in your pets eye, in theory it should work, just put the theory into practice and see what results you come up with

This wont work. Putting your finger over the flash will result in a bad exposure/bad white balance/funny shadows. You are on the right track though. Preference would say turn it off. Direct flash on cameras is bloody horrid. Its ok for snaps, but if you want more ooomph you need off camera flash/light. In this case its not an option (P&S im guessing?) either cover it with white toilet paper or outsource some light. On the other note of bouncing the flash, its near on impossible with a built in flash. You can build a makeshift bounce card, but this rarely works how you want it too x

I really like number 4!

If you haven't already, go through our 'Photography Guides' that you can find on the homepage (bottom right hand side of the page) - they really are a big help.

I'm not sure how he figured that out, but he is correct. It is a cheap camera, point and shoot so turning off the flash is not an option but I will try the toilet paper thing until I get a new (much better) camera which should be very soon!
