Blaze

This is Blaze from North Essex Horse Rescue Unit {Sorry bit of an advert going on there} back to the photo, my problem is the white bits and if the lighting is poor, then you just don't get to see his face, I actually took this one with my "coolpix" but the same problem seems to arise, any tips on photographing him, i would be grateful, Oh and i'm pretty scared of horses, so all photo's are taken the other side of the fence

Re: Blaze

Getting "white" right can be extremely difficult. If you shoot in raw, you might be able to fix it in photoshop by reducing the highlights in camera raw. If you don't shoot in raw, and the camera only shoots in jpeg, the only real answer is to reduce the exposure time if you can. If you only have program or auto exposure it is as it is, generally.

Sorry, not the bearer of good tidings

Except shoot the pic again with the oly 500 In RAW, lol

Re: Blaze

As Grumps has said, it very difficult to get the exposure spot on when your subject has both dark and bright extremes and you shoot in JPG.

If you shoot in RAW you will capture more tonal range, it can then be possible for you to juggle the exposure in software to suite.

That's probably my best option, the coolpix only shoots in jpeg, it's just annoying because this shot i can see all the features in his face, which normally are far to dark,

oh well back to the drawing board, so to speak

Re: Blaze

I think some detail is there even though its a jpeg I played with
all Ive done is turn the brightness down in CS5

spot metering on any camera on this type of subject will give problems also

Wow Cakey, that looks a lot better, I must try and do more in the PS, sometimes i do play around with the photo's and end up with colours that really don't look right at all, but this looks great and it's kept the detail that i was on about, Thank you

Re: Blaze

Not a bad photo at all Musky, with a little help from Cakey
Always difficult to photograph anything with White in it.

Horses seem to have a good sense of whether you are scared of them or not, if your nervy around them then they pick up on this very quickly. I hope one day you overcome your fear of horses, they are beautiful creatures.
