Filters Can Cause Problems

After using my Nikon D40X for 9 months I was talking to a camera store salesman about the vignetting I was getting in most of my shots. It takes a lot of time to post edit the corners of my photos. He informed me my problem came from stacking filters on my lenses. I have a UV filter followed by a circular polarizing filter on each lens. The additional extension off the prime lens causes the corners of photos to be noticeably darker in a gradient fashion. With the salesman's advice I removed the UV filter altogether and purchased a higher quality polarizing filter that is thinner. Viola!!! No more vignetting.

Re: Filters Can Cause Problems

Interesting stuff that! I've noticed similar on a few of my shots - will test it without the filter(/lems protecter!) and see if there is a difference..

Re: Filters Can Cause Problems

It's another one of those funnies in photography.

I have purchased the Hoya Pro B1 filters for my lenes, They go from around £35 - £50 for the UV filter. But they are so clear, when you hold them up it is like looking through a metal circle with no glass

It's another cost consideration when upgrading lenses, if you go and spend a wad of cash on a nice new lens, don't waste your money buy screwing a £5 ebay filter on the front.

Alan.

Agreed Alan. It's like hooking up rabbit ears to a high definition tv.
