Veteran Osprey Returns

Scotland's oldest breeding Osprey has returned home to Loch of the Lowes, Perthshire for the 18th consecutive year. The bird estimated to be 24 years old is a record breaker having produced 52 eggs so far. Staff at the reserve had feared that becuase of her age she may not have able to complete her 3000 mile migration from West Africa. Now they are awaiting the return of her long time partner who usually arrives home within a week of her to produce chicks.

It's a great place for anybody wanting to photograph the Osprey's in the wild or any of the other wildlife that's on offer. There's various hides set up for photography and the live webcam on the TV (in the hides) enables you easily see when the birds are getting ready to go or arrive.

Here's a few from my trip there this time last year - not the best examples as my lens wasn't really up to it but a great place to go never the less.

Re: Veteran Osprey Returns

The female will all over the place just now but I might go again in a few weeks once the bloke bird is back.

Once she's got eggs they take turns to fly about and return every 20 mins to change over. Much more predictable for taking photopgraphs.

I've got a 2X telconverter now so I should be able to get that bit nearer.

UPDATED

Almost to the day - the UK's oldest known breeding female osprey has returned to her nest for the 20th consecutive year.

Hopefully I'm better kitted out for some pics this year.

Re: Veteran Osprey Returns

Going to pop to Loch of the Lowes today to 'try' some Osprey shots.

The nest is too far for easy 'decent' shots. She's got 2 eggs just now but no chicks so she may be on the nest more than fishing but i may get lucky....
