Macro...are these any good?

I admit, the moth was an attempt to get a shot like Bazza did. You may call it plagiarism, I chose to see it as an homage

Which of the two dandelion clocks do you prefer? Or do you like neither?
And beware, if you're arachnophobic, there's a spider at the end...

Thanks

(Yes, I'm using you for free critique. What can I say? I respect your views, you are fine upright and upstanding people. And cheap. Very cheap )

Re: Macro...are these any good?

Love image 2 Gaz! The others are a little noisy, which suggests cropping closer - do you have a dedicated macro lens? Can be a problem if not, but you can use extension tubes, or just crop so the insect isn't so close, which can be interesting if you can do something with the surroundings!

Re: Macro...are these any good?

I like one and two too.

Btw, not sure if you do already, but it's ok to add a little sharpening once you have resized for the web - you generally need to to compensate for the reduction in size.

Sadly I don't have a dedicated macro lens at the moment. (To be honest, if you look back at some of the attempts I had at macro way back in 09, and the poor quality, I was quite convinced I was hopeless at it, and I'd got this camera to try strobist work, not macro, so I didn't spec a dedicated macro lens)

I'm using the kit F3.5 18-55 lens. I very much doubt I will be able to afford proper glass for macro, but I'm planning on macro rings as an ebay purchase fairly soon. I'm loving the *look at things with your normal eye, then look again with a view to taking pictures* feeling once again

You cannot begin to believe how hard it is not to comment about compensating for size

I've not sharpened the images, the only post processing I have done on any of the pics I've posted has been cropping and changing the contrast on the spider.

I will certainly try what you say. *Checks* I have photoshop Elephants, Picasa and Serif Photo Plus...I'm fairly sure that there will be something in there which will do the job Thanks for the advice
