Columbia River Gorge

It was time for another ride to the Columbia River Gorge today. It's about a 200 mile round trip and there was a haze in the air from the heat wave we've been experiencing this week. I stopped at a favorite rest area that has an overlook that includes a train tunnel and a rock face bluff in the foreground. It was interesting to have captured the moon in the background that gave a surreal look to the scenic.

Re: Columbia River Gorge

I really enjoy my tour of parts of the US through your pics Bob but I thought this one was a bit below your usual standard. The halo'ing on the PP (sky meets land) and sadly the moon looks like a dust spot. I understand the technical difficulties but i think overall it comes out below the quality of most of the pics I see from you. Not to say it isn't a good record shot of a trip out, and a great window on your world

Re: Columbia River Gorge

I have to disagree with BC on this one - I really like this shot, one of my faves from Bobs series so far. I love how it looks almost alien, but when you spot the train track it screams earth.

Re: Columbia River Gorge

I really like it too, love the fact you captured the moon during the day

In Bob's defence, what can often appear as haloing, is how the light often appears here, on a hot day you get a lot of haze resulting in a very graduated sky, often appearing almost white when it touches the land. Having said that, I love the light here

Thanks for your defence Suz. I generally don't argue about opinions in such cases. I like the photo enough to now use it as my desktop background scene.
