Re: Standing Tall

Guess I'll have to wait until they return. I have all my twigs ready all over the garden

Re: Standing Tall

Nice shot Mark, it looks as though he is looking toward his target/destination.

I've noticed the same as you and Dave our feeders seem to go in fits & starts, if the birds do feed it seems to be early morning and late afternoon. But I've had a week where they haven't been touched then a few days where the feeders get mobbed, it's really weird.

Re: Standing Tall

Thanks Ken .....He might of been trying to make a statement Ken, saying `I am cock of this feeder`. he was in a fight with a few other Starlings just before this shot so holding his head up high after being victorious
When it comes down to the lack of feeding from one week or month to the next, i am wondering if its down to territory, if the Starlings territory is quite wide then it may take them some time to cover all of their territory from a few days to a few weeks, just a thought

Re: Standing Tall

Can take time for birds to find your feeders, when they do you will form part of a feeding circuit. Its still fairly mild at the moment so many birds will still be finding food naturally. If you can add a water supply as drinking and bathing form an important part of their lives.

in the meantime starlings are great characters and truly bonny birds to watch.

Re: Standing Tall

Thanks Brian for the info We do have plenty of feeders up, 3 feeding stations which each have 3 hang down feeders with peanuts, seed and fatballs in them, a suet cake cage on each of the feeders and the mesh trays + a water bowl, also have a wooden bird table, usually the pigeons and doves like using that one, and then another feeder which is a bird bath and feeding shelf....Any bird that does visit the garden is spoiled to say the least

Re: Standing Tall

they are trying to stop us feeding birds around here especially swans and ducks apparently they are getting to fat and becoming easy prey for foxes etc.

must admit when im fishing they get fed hundreds of times each day but everyone that feeds them thinks they are the only ones doing so

Re: Standing Tall

Crazy rule to try and put through Cakey....Maybe culling the foxes is another option, especially if there are too many around the area and they are becoming a danger to other wildlife. I am against culling but do think we have to step in sometimes to keep the balance in nature or it will run amok.

Re: Standing Tall

Thank you Owen, this is probably my best image of the starlings taken in the garden this year, just got in the right position to use next doors trees as the backdrop, previous images have been very ugly due to having more of the feeder in the image or the fence....

Lol Cakey No i had better not :P
