In case of loss and getting help in your camera

Not 'photography' tips as such but just tips.

1) Photograph your business card or your name and address on a piece of paper then protect the image. It won't gaurantee a safe return but can only help should you happen to misplace your camera or memory card.

2) On the same theme - If your going out for the day to try out some new techniques, photograph the page/pages from the manual or magazine. Most modern camera LCD screens are big enough and clear enough for you to view the instructions easily.

I hope they're not too much like 'Viz' top tips.

Re: In case of loss and getting help in your camera

Nice one Phil, to add to it...

Many cameras allow you to add a 'comment' to pictures - it's handy to add your name, and if you want, your postcode too. That way if someone steals it and you catch them at it and need to show the police officer it actually belongs to you your name is in there

With regards to tip 2 above - many Nikons have a ? button, which you can press on many of the functions... it tells you what the function does, and has other tips too

Re: In case of loss and getting help in your camera

Surely taking down the camera serial number and keeping it would be far better. All cameras have these numbers as well as all lenses.

If you have your gear insured the insurance company ask for these details anyway.

I can't see how photographing a business card will help with theft of a camera, the camera can be so easily reset removing anything like that on card and camera.

Well, Phil said that tip was handy if the camera got lost - so if an honest person found it they could take it to the police stationa who would hopefully see what pictures were on it and... find the owners details

It's nothing to do with theft Bazza.

More if it was lost, left on a church seat at a wedding etc.

Somebody may look at the pics and know who it belonged to.

Well I was on about adding a comment in the camera's system, not photographing a business card, you said:
