Programmable Custom Modes

Hi

I just wondered if anybody uses programmable custom modes at all ?

I find them quite handy although conditions need to stay the same during your shoot.

Re: Programmable Custom Modes

Rarely. My camera is usually in the Tv mode (Speed Priority).

I will switch to program mode if I am handing the camera to her indoors to take a couple of frames but that it is about it.

Av and manual get used when the occasion arises.

Re: Programmable Custom Modes

Funny you should say that Steve - 90% of the time I have my camera in Tv mode as (shooting dogs for example) it's when I need to adjust things the quickest. I like to use the slowest shutter speed possible so it's quick to suddenly adjust from a still dog to a running dog.

I'd use AV mode for still life / landscapes when the depth of focus is more significant although with more time on my hands I'd probably use manual.

Re: Programmable Custom Modes

I do use the memory banks for certain photos, and those are set up via custom modes.

Re: Programmable Custom Modes

I stick with Aperature Priority since I shoot scenics. Mountains reliably don't move much. The exception would be a portrait against a bright background where I need a fill flash. I generally use the on-camera flash for this just becuse it's quicker than asking my subject to stand still and wait until I unpack & set up my SB600.
