Re: Loch of the Lowes Osprey 'dying in her nest'

Still don't think they're expecting her to last very long. If she recovers 'a bit' then they don't expect her to be fit for migration back to Africa and she wouldn't survive the winter here.

Can except that she has come to the end of her natural span it just seems a wretched time to do it when you have young in the nest.

Re: Loch of the Lowes Osprey 'dying in her nest'

Aww what a shame, but she is fantastic age, and so many chicks she has raised too. Hope her passing is as quick and painless as possible, and her mate continues to feed the chicks xxxx

Re: Loch of the Lowes Osprey 'dying in her nest'

Yep things are looking better - quite a lot better.

I was reading somewhere that she has been responsible for UK Osprey numbers rising from 50 to 200.

Not sure if allowed to post this but it will give you regular reliable updates......

Re: Loch of the Lowes Osprey 'dying in her nest'

Well what do you know.

She's feeding herself, feeding her chicks and the old girl is bossing her 3rd bloke about again.

Whilst its an amazing chapter in a 25 year tale - everybody has mixed feelings.

The good news - she's improved so much that it looks like (unless the problem returns) she will extend her record and see this years chicks fledge. It was amazing that she showed up this year. Few expected to see her back from Africa yet alone have another family but she made it all the same.

The not so good news - If she isn't fit to migrate back to Africa this year she will die in the Scottish winter at Loch of the Lowes.

If she does have the strength to migrate - nobody will know how it ended for her.

It's an odd one - people willing her on yet happy to see her pass away here in the sunshine at her Loch of the Lowes home.

I know what you mean.

It's fantastic for the chics that she made it through but there's an irony.

Had she died at Loch of the Lowes then at least everybody would have known what became of her.

Now - who knows ?

She may migrate but simply not return - she may not migrate at all in which case she will never survive the winter here.

An amazing life story though regardless.
