Re: more from the old Rollei!

All this talk about the good old film days and my strongest reminiscent is the smell. Mind you there is nothing so exciting as printing your own work and tweaking in the detail you want, but time and cost make the digital so much quicker and cost effect.

How people complain about having to work on shots on the PC they should have tried the film days not only very time consuming but most of the time you were in the dark with wet hands which you hoped was water.

Would not mind having another go but threw out all my stuff when we moved here 10 years ago, no chance of a dark room here.

Which is what I was trying to explain in the last thread. It had to be done in real time, i.e. you had half a minute or so to prepare you final print under the enlarger...and at considerable cost each time you spoiled a piece of 16x12 paper! With Photoshop you can take all day and 15 coffees whilst you do it!

I thought these shots were better than the last and particularly the kids and the dog etc. give it a great family childhood feel. I think some of us feel an affiliation with film because we have hundreds with this sort of feel in a suitcase in the attic (well I have).

I did as before but presumably becuse of the shape these are on 6x6 TLR Rollei? If so, a variation on the one used by David Bailey and many other professionals at the time? Presumably your dad fancied himself as a keen amateur or pro then? Rollei's were always expensive in comparison, when most people had an Instamatic or Olympus Trip or so. The TLR had an advantage of generally being used at waist height which makes a difference to adult eye-level most of us do today. I did ask in the other thread, but where are you getting them processed? Are they machine prints from Asda or something?

Re: more from the old Rollei!

Goodness yes, one would have loved a Rolleiflex, I started with a 125 but soon moved onto a 35mm. I still have a 125 and my last 35mm body but sadly sold my very favourite which was a ME.

I had assumed that Finbar was developing and printing them himself then scanning to his PC, perhaps not I seem to have missed the other thread must make a point of reading a bit more about this outburst from the past.
