Old binoculars

The camera club I belong to has set me a task of 'still life'

I'm way out of my depth with this subject and that's where I want you guys to help me. I've had a little play at taking some shots of a very old, dirty pair of binoculars, but I just don't know if Ive got the idea right. I had a bit of fun anyway, so I guess that's a good thing

Any criticism is very welcome...I'm never gonna learn anything unless I get some feedback

They are straight from camera, so suggstions on editing would be good too. Maybe mono would work....?

Thanks for looking

Re: Old binoculars

Nice work Tina - I prefer the first one, as I feel the colours are better balanced (the others are a bit too blue heavy imo - and might work better as monos).

Re: Old binoculars

Hi Tina

Not really my field either I'm afraid but for what it's worth....

The focus on the first shot seems a bit strange - the sharpest bit of the image seems to be the top edge of the leather strap in the foreground.

The other thing that springs to mind is the lighting. It's quite 'normal' if that makes sense. It's all about personal taste I guess but it would be nice to have them side lit using a desk lamp to make more out of the shape and textures. It would require a longer exposure but that's no problem with a tripod.

Re: Old binoculars

Thanks Phil - that is a great help and I understand exactly what you've said. Lighting was a problem, I only had window light. I'm going to order a couple of small lamps - may or may not help! It's me that is the biggest problem - I just don't get it
