Can you take it?

Critiques that is

Do you think people (in general) take criticism of their photography well?

Do you think it changes as a person progresses skills-wise?

Re: Can you take it?

I would like more critques. I sometimes feel fustrated if I don't get any! I want to improve and I can't do that without feedback.
Some people however are proud of their photos and just want to showcase them.
I think this forum allows for both with the different categories of post available.

For the record though - feel free to rip my pictures to pieces. I can take it!

Re: Can you take it?

Can't speak for anybody else but I'm happy to get a critique.

Obviously if somebody can give me some pointers as to how my photograph could be improved then all the better.

If somebody says they don't like a photograph - I can accept that too although I prefer it if people tell me why they don't like it.

Re: Can you take it?

I never seem to get any critique, either my photography is that fantastic I don't need it or that c**p that it isn't worth critiquing

Re: Can you take it?

I think one of the problems with critiques is that at times we got too many requests - and as it takes a while to do a proper critique people don't get the time. So I have made a change (to the critique thread type) so that people can only ask for one critique of 1 pic per day - hopefully that'll make it easier for people

Of course making sure you have the 'critique ok' box ticked in your profile should mean you're open to receiving them whenever you post too

Re: Can you take it?

Its always great to get feedback about how to improve on a picture from people 'in the know'. I am not good at critiquing - I just know if like a picture or not

I agree, I wouldn't necessarily offer Critique... maybe feedback as to what catches my eye within the shot, and of course sometimes I just look at images and think, Oh my God! (and that could be one way or another)

I think it depends on many things Azz...who is giving the criticism and how it is given for a start

I don't always agree with people who critique my work but I try to appreciate what they are saying

Re: Can you take it?

The people around me are not very “photographically” minded. If I show them an image, I either get a confused grunt or told “I saw a much better one in a book somewhere”
So any feedback – positive or negative – is valuable to me. If I’m just mucking everything up, I would like to be told to (and if possible how to) get it right. Criticism, particularly if it is constructive and if possible, helpful, is much appreciated.
Besides, photography is subjective, what appeals to some, others will hate. There may be obvious problems with an image that need correcting, but in terms of what people like, everyone has their own opinion which you may or may not agree with.

I really think the key word here is “Constructive”.

Re: Can you take it?

I welcome all feed back good or bad! It really helps, what does not help is no comments at all! Even the "I like it" is good enough for me, and if anyone cares to elaborate on why they like it or not, then that's fantastic.
