Re: Racehorses

I rather like the bold colours - but not the vignetting.

Re: Racehorses

I love the bold colours, and love the composition, the gate doesn't bother me, the vignette I like, bu maybe a bit softer. I really do like this shot Sally

Re: Racehorses

Sally I like the shot in general but think may be cropping out some more of the horses that are not of interest may help focus the attention on the main two subjects.

Vignette, I like when it is just on a background but not when it covers part of the subject, I can see that you possible used it to concentrate the viewers eyes on the two horses at the gate but for me at least it does not work.

Just a rough crop, no thought given to the hight, to give you an idea of what I mean, then clone the unattached head and loose the vignette. Let me know if you don't like people copying and I will remove it.

Re: Racehorses

Thanks everyone!

Snapper...I see what you are doing with the crop and it does work, but I actually really like the background/sides of the image, with the other horses included. But, for technicallity purposes, yes the crop is probably better.

As for the vinaigrette (that's what I call it anyway, as I can't say the other word very easily!), I added that ages ago and now don't really like it, but couldn't totally remove it, without taking away bits of the horses.

Re: Racehorses

Ah! Sally, it is always best to keep an original and make amendments to a copy. It is your shot and up to you what you include in your picture.

This is just my view of matters but the reason I cropped the horses on the left was because not only is the view of just their backsides but they are walking out of the picture, on the right the complete horse is fine but the neck and head poking into the shot just distracts from the main subjects.

However as I said in my first paragraph, if you are taking a shot for yourself then you take what you like, if for others then you have to pay that bit more attention to the composition. If you place shots on a forum that are snaps taken for yourself and you are just sharing and do not require comment or suggestions then perhaps you should say so and we will not offer suggestions when they are not wanted.

My apologies for commenting in detail I will not again unless you ask for a C&C.
