Re: Olympus E-410

I think you are wrong about Sony CC.

Quote from Trusted Reviews.com

"Sony is a relative newcomer to the DSLR market, but has already moved into third place in the global market, mainly on the strength of its first consumer-level DSLR, the impressive Alpha A100, launched in June 2006. The A100 offered a superior specification to the then-current Canon EOS 350D and Nikon D40, but at a lower price and with the advantage of built-in moving-sensor image stabilisation. Sony followed this up in September last year with the semi-pro Alpha A700, competing in the same market as the EOS 40D and Nikon D300. However Sony has recently announced three more DSLRs in quick succession. Most recently we have heard about the Alpha A300 and A350, which will appeal to the more ambitious amateur with a range of features including an articulated live-view monitor and, for the A350, a 14.2-megapixel sensor. News of these interesting new models has somewhat overshadowed the launch of Sony's first new camera this year, the entry-level Alpha A200."
"In terms of its overall specification it is a close match for both the Canon EOS 400D and the new Nikon D60 (which has the same Sony-made sensor). "

"The Alpha A200 is an important model for Sony, since it is now the entry model for a growing DSLR system. It ticks all the right boxes, with an attractive and easy-to-use design, brisk performance and good picture quality. It's feature set will leave advanced amateurs and semi-pros wanting more, but that's pretty much the idea of an entry-level camera. For the price it offers a comprehensive package for the first-time user with very few problems. Could Sony overtake Nikon this year?"

Sony will also release a 24.6mp flagship DSLR ( probably called the a900 ) later this year, to go head to head with the Canon 1DsMkIII, so they are definitely serious players in the market.

Just because Canon and Nikon have been around for a while, doesn't mean they can't be challenged CC.

My advice is this;

Listen to what others on the forum have to say, after all, it's these guys who are using the cameras every day, so there is no one better to help you when looking for advice. They should only tell you how good or bad their own camera is, and not put down any other make or model, especially if they haven't owned one.

My own personal experience involved hours and hours of trawling the net, reading review after review before I finally decided on the Sony A700. I went to Jessops to buy my new camera, but the guy behind the counter was so determined to sell me a Canon 40D. I humoured him by trying out everything he had to offer , but 45 mins later, with put down after put down of the Sony, he finally gave in. And to my amazment, he then started to concede that the Sony was superior to the 40D in some ways.

It was only when he went through the back to get my new kit, that I noticed the Canon 40D & 400D boxes, stacked floor to ceiling. He was clearly on some kind of commission to sell as many Canons as he could.
God...even the Jessops bag that I carried my new Sony home in, had a huge Canon advertisement splattered all over it!

If you have your heart set on the Olympus, go to a decent photography shop, and ask to try it out. See how it feels in your hand, and compare the feel of it to others within your price band.

You'll know when you have picked the right camera.

I also think that the camera is only as good as the person who operates it.
