Olympus E-410

Been to Currys today, and saw this on offer for £275!!! I am so tempted. I have been trying different cameras in my hand for the last couple of weeks and narrowed it down to several but I had already found the Olympus the lightest and easiest to hold. can't really afford it,but the cheapest I have seen it. Also been looking at the Canon EOS 400D and the Nikon D60.

I really want an SLR I borrowed my friends for a few days(very trusting) Nikon D70 and loved it.

Look a bit further than just the camera, see the range and price of lenses as well for it.

Re: Olympus E-410

Have a look at Caroles thread in thi section MS - the D40 should be a hot contender if you are on a budget.. in my view, nothing comes close to it at that price especially when you consider you are buying into the Nikon brand and lenses (so makes perfect sense for when you come to upgrade - because any extra lens you buy won't be 'wasted').

Re: Olympus E-410

I am not sure which one to go for now, I have been reading loads of reviews and I am even more confused

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp...cfz50&show=all

Comparing them to my camera that I have now Panasonic Dmc FZ50 which I love, and is a recent purchase I realise I should of gone straight to getting an SLR, as they have very similiar features My head hurts

It is just after using my friends SLR I realise the picture quality is so much better, even with a numpty like me using it for the first time.

I notice nearly everybody has got either Nikon or a Canon on here, is there something I should knowIs there anything wrong with Olympus, the lens range does seem more limited, but seems to have good reviews as a camera.

Whenever I really like a picture in a magazine or book, it is nearly always shot on a Canon though.Out of my choices at the moment it is between the Canon EOS 400D and the Olympus.

Very confused

Re: Olympus E-410

I've got an Olympus & I love it.
At the time I could have bought from a range of manufacturers, but I liked the feel of the Olympus.
Kit lenses (Zuiko) are more than adequate to get you started, but are made to fit the four Thirds system,so not interchangable if you upgrade

to another make (without an adaptor)
Olympus cameras are wildly used in the F1 circuit coverage & also many wildlife photographers use them.
Jessops are now stocking four thirds kit as well as the Canons & Nikons etc.
Kit 1
Olympus e520
Zuiko Digital ED 70-300mm F4.0-5.6
Zuiko 14-45 mm, F/3.5-5.6
Zuiko 40-150 mm, F/3.5-4.5
My Compact/P&S: Fuji E510

The reason why most have Canon or Nikon is because of the add ons available for those makes,ie lenses- flashguns- remote shutter release to name but a few. Also there is wider availability to obtain the said items.

Its not that often that I get invited out by a lady I havn't met even if its only to go shopping.

Well, if you can stop me spending my money when I shouldn't be, you are more than welcome to come shopping

Another thing to think about then, if the lenses and other accessories are harder to obtain etc. I still really like the camera though

Not going to rush into anything, going to price up how much it would cost for added bits and pieces for several models from different outlets.

Re: Olympus E-410

Most people believe that Nikon and Canon are the market leaders (and sales prove that). In the UK Canon are at the top of the charts at present, in Japan Nikon are.

It's also believe they have the best lens, and if you think you may get into photography seriously, it means you can buy a cheaper body and then buy lens as and can you can afford them and upgrade to a better body later one... yet still be able to use those lovely lenses

I think Sony are ones to watch out for too.. they make many of the chips that go inside a lot of the cameras (eg inside Nikons) and have shown they want to be a serious contendor in the DSLR market too. Their newer products certainly look ace
