how do I go about selling my photography?

I've been asked if someone can use my photography for their website. This is the second time this has happened now, but I want to try and make some profit.

I dont want to scare them away, but dont want to give it away for free. An advice?

Re: how do I go about selling my photography?

.
It all depends on how big and important the web site is, ie is it for commercial purposes or just a personal one, I would be inclined to find out first before quoting a price.

If its for commercial use I would double any figure I was first thinking of as they can claim it back as expenses.

Would you want to keep the interlectual property rights/ copyright? if not the price would obviously be more.

I would work somewhere around£25/50 for a personal one and double for commercial. As you say you don't want to give it away.

If you were selling it as part of your business then I would have a look at what others charge, a good place to start looking would be wedding photographers prices as a very rough guide.

Don't know if this is of any help but its the best I can think of at the moment

Re: how do I go about selling my photography?

Dan this has happened to me several times now through Flickr . I have not charged anything yet, as I was extremely flattered that someone wanted to use some of my stuff, and I have only been taking pics a short time. So I figured it was worth the exposure, just to have myself given a credit on their website.

But, I do have a magazine that is interested in maybe using one of my pics in the States, again through Flickr contacts, and I will be getting paid for that if they go ahead and use it.Nothing definite has happened yet, so if it does I will let you know how it goes as I have not got a clue what a decent price is

Good luck Dan, sorry I wasn't much help xxx

That looks to me like being used for commercial purposes Dan. Don't forget to put a copyright on it if you need to with your name. I wouldn't go by what prints sell for as the is a slightly different market, you are dealing with the internet not single individual pictures/prints.

Bazza
you mean actually applying it to the photo, Its actually licensed on flickr, so would that count?

Cheers Moonstone, let us know how that goes. I miss an opportunity to charge a few month ago when a company contacted me called fibrecity.

Do you know any pros , who you could ask about this?

What sort of price were you thinking of?

Yes Dan, often you can see photo by ***** in one corner with a copyright sign. It not everyone or hardly anyone is going to go to flicker to check first.

Its your photographic art work so let people know
