Nifty Fifty pics please.

I am considering the nifty fifty lens ( no idea what it is really called without checking, I mostly see it referred to as that on here...)as a Xmas pressie.

Can all you wonderful photographers post some pics on here that you have taken with yours? I am interested to see the range of images that can be achieved.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Nifty Fifty pics please.

Hi, I have just acquired a 50mm f1.4 lens only mine is not a Nikon but a Pentax. Have taken a few with it and I am very pleased, is super for portrait type shots and also for when you want a tight DOF. Again it is great indoors because with such low rating, 1.4, it will take shots in low light which means no flash or at most a deflected flash, also means you can keep the ISO lower so less noise.

Have taken a few shots with it but they are not on photobucket and I do not have the time to sort them at the moment, when I do I will let you see if you wish.

Think a few of the Nikon people have one so they should be able to satisfy your interest.

Re: Nifty Fifty pics please.

I'll look some more pictures out for you Rach in a wee while.

Mine is the cheaper Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II which you may see called the 'nifty fifty' or 'plastic fantastic'. You can get the the 1.8 for about £60-£80. If you were wanting a wider aperture 1.4 you would pay quite a bit more.

Remember the thing about EF lenses rather than a EF-S lenses. Your camera sensor (like mine and most other peoples) isn't full frame so whilst you'll get the nice big aperture you would be 1.6 x 50mm = 80mm.

You could also search tags on here or on Flickr for examples.

Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM

Re: Nifty Fifty pics please.

The 'nifty fifty' refers to the 50mm f1.8 It is a good lens for the price (as Phil said the 50mm f1.4 costs approx 4x the amount the f1.8 does).

I personally went for the f1.4 as I wanted the better build quality etc however some of the shots I have seen that has been taken with the f1.8 have been rather good. I know Sammy used it alot before she bought her 70-200mm and she got good reults with it

Re: Nifty Fifty pics please.

Sorry, yes mine was about twice that price, seem to remember about £158 I think, still not bad for a nice little lens. Not sure if it is plastic or not but it weighs more than you would expect.

Love the Lupins Phil, and love my pretend Nifty
