Re: Lens prices increase

BC - I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.George Best.

I did have a bit of a shock when I recently bought a new lens. After pricing 'up in' recent magazines I believed the lens would be a bout £320 but all the shops were selling for £450. One actually had it in the shop with a £329 price label but when I asked they explained it was the old price hmm. I ended up paying £350 after poking around on the net but there must be a lot of people who don't or won't buy online I guess.

Re: Lens prices increase

Legally Phil if that was the price on the label then that is all they are allowed to charge for that item. However if you left the shop and they repriced it, then you again would have to pay the new price advertised on the label if you went back to buy it.
They can legally reduce the price advertised but not increase it.

I was thinking that but I'm now thinking about when I studied 'Contract Law' at Uni. There's a thing called 'invitation to treat' which means just because somebody has something for sale they can choose not to sell it to you. I guess they could refuse to sell and then pop the correct price on.

Re: Lens prices increase

Phil if they have something for sale then withdraw/alter that offer at point of purchase, they could be breaching the Trading Descriptions Act and/ or Misrepresentation under the Sale of Goods Act, so I think they would be on very dodgy ground if they tried to use that arguement. If it were a private sale then things might be different.

In my business we quote different prices depending on size of dog to be boarded. Once we quote that price then we are not allowed to increase it but can decrease it.

The only exception is if the client has deliberately set out to deceived us as to the size of dog (ie saying the dog is a Chihuahua and they bring in a Great Dane), in an effort to obtain a cheaper boarding rate, then we can either refuse to board the dog or adjust the boarding rate accordingly. There are other reasons why we can refuse to board, but that is not anything to do with the financial side of boarding

Re: Lens prices increase

If lens prices are going to increase, then job pays for us should be increased as well.
