Exactly the same reasons I went for the Sigma, even second hand, I couldnt justify (nor afford) the cost of the Canon, even though I have used one and loved it.

It did come out top in recent tests, Im sure you probably saw the same review I did, but I also saw a couple months ago in another mag which swayed me towards it, along with looking at images taken with it on several different bodies.
