I've done it - I've shot a small bird

Never managed anything smaller than a seagull before, know it could be bit sharper well it could be a lot sharper but you can see they are Hedge Sparrows,

can't you?

Re: I've done it - I've shot a small bird

I was expecting a dead bird from the title of the thread.

Well done. They are tough to capture unless you photograph them on a feeder.

My 'small' bird pictures are pretty lame

Re: I've done it - I've shot a small bird

Snapper there is a trick to photographing small birds.

First set up a feeding station with bird seed etc. Then you need a remote cordless shutter release as in the link. DON'T get the one with a cord in error. The link is specific to your make of camera

http://photography.shop.ebay.co.uk/i...se&_osacat=625

I only paid about £4 plus p/p and has a range of about 30/40ft but you can get more expensive ones.

So I set the camera up on a tripod about 5/10 ft away with the camera and remote shutter release set up, then wait. After a time and the birds know about and used to the feed station and camera. The photo below was taken when I was 30 ft away sitting in my warm office.

As an example, not one of my best by any means, but shows what results you can get and how close.

Re: I've done it - I've shot a small bird

Have to say mine was hand held through dog decorated double glazing, hand held at the end of the telephoto, I am amazed I got anything but I was surprised and pleased with what I did get.

I have a remote so next fine day I may try your method, first get the feeder up.

Re: I've done it - I've shot a small bird

Snaps, I think they are great I can't photograph birds, I am useless at it.

Especially if they are through glass. Hope top see some more soon. xxx

PS I also understand Dog Decorated Double Glazing, I have at the moment a mixture of nose smudges inside, and filthy pawprints on the outside

Re: I've done it - I've shot a small bird

I love these Snapper they're great, especially as they're taken through dog decorated (lol) glass (Polo licks our windows do your dogs?). The colours of the hedge against the birds complements them really well, I like the way the shot is so natural.
