Camp 18 Fireplace

On a trip to the coast today I stopped at Camp 18 for a cup of tea, yes tea. This is a rustic converted logging camp that is simply huge. The food is always good and the decor is unbelieveable. Imagine sitting around this real fireplace sipping tea with your English muffin. The grain is intentional.

What do you think of the framed version below?

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

Lovely image image Bob - could almost be (without the No Smoking Sign) a Christmas Card.

The fire irons are almost identical to ours.

The framed shot - I know it's the angle it was shot at but the dominant mantle kind of makes it look skewed against the line of the frame.

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

I've sent the first version to the restaurant owner. I see what you mean about the mantle angle and like you mentioned it all had to do with being shot from the side. The skewing is less noticeable in the unframed photograph.

I'm sure they'll like it Bob.

Yep - Nothing wrong with the pic - it's the composition within that strong frame that causes it. This always happens with 'slight' angles. If the shot was dead straight or a much greater angle then it wouldn't play on the eye in the same way.

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

Ooooohhh I thought my fireplace was big That's huge. Lovely image Bob. Is it cold enough where you are for fires already ?

I have a big open fire, and there are logs all ready, but can't see it ever getting cold enough to use it

It was 49 on the drive to Camp 18. That fire was very welcomed.

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

I really like that picture, and agree with the comments above. A simple cloning out of the sign would benefit, and i think I'd be tempted to clone out the light to the extreme right and vignette the whole picture to kep the eye more central. Still an attention grabing image.

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

The first is fab - not such a big fan of the second, the colours look less rich to me. Mind, on its own merits (re. colour) it works too I do prefer the richer one though, when they're presented as a pair like this. What a glorious, cosy image though I really do love it!

Re: Camp 18 Fireplace

I deliberately toned down the color of the framed image just to give it a different look. I too still like the more intense first photo.
