Travelling with your camera

I'm off abroad next week and will be taking my camera with me.

My intention is to take all (ha!) my gear in my backpack - I was wondering if there are any issues with CF cards and the scanners you go through at the airports nowadays or any other things I should be on the lookout for....

Cheers

CF cards will be fine. They might want to look through your bag though. Remember a lot of carriers still have hand baggage limits, so try to ensure that your camera bag (rucksack) is your only piece of hand luggage, any more and they may insist you check one in.

Are you going somewhere hot? I had a discussion with a friend of mine the other day over condensation, something that I used to get a lot of in the far east, he put his camera and lens in sealable food bags (the ones with the sealable zip) and put sillica gel in each bag.

If you let your camera warm up, then take it out the bag you won't get any condensation.

Alan.

Re: Travelling with your camera

I got really worried when we went through scanning earlier in the year, but you have to remember that the X-ray machines are very very clear at showing what you have in your bag nowadays.
from what i know they can even see inside your camera...

I would maybe take the advice with the sealable bags and silica gel, just to be safe.

Re: Travelling with your camera

I've travelled with cameras all the time, and not had any trouble, only thing I requested on way home from Maldives as they scanned my films on the way out - was that they didn't xray them (they had to go through 5 xrays by the time I got back on the plane) and I didn't want to lose 9 rolls of 120mm film - so they checked the bag individually which was nice of them. My memory cards etc were all fine!

Enjoy your travels!
