What do you resize to?

Looking at some of the images on here, the crispness (read sharpness) of the image is just wonderful.

Looking at some of the images I shoot, I don't appear to have that same crispness. I'm not sure if I'm losing out in pixels (I'm using a D70 with 6mb), or if when I resize I lose some definition.

Invariably when I saw the RAW file, I save it to a 'save for web' file and its about 800x600 in size...

Any tips or pointers anyone?

Re: What do you resize to?

About the same. I always crop in Picasa on one of their preset crop (I forget which one - 10/15 is ringing bells). Then I take it over to PS and resize to 800 width if it's a landscape orientation and 600 width if it's a portrait orientation

Re: What do you resize to?

I don't 'save to web' or resize I just upload it as it is. Should I be doing something different?

Its you that made me think of this, as your pics are just stunning and so sharp! I'm just wondering if my camera is past its best and I should be looking at an upgrade

No, it isn't past it's best.

Do not use the save for web feature, just resize it to 800x600 manually and save as JPEG.

Re: What do you resize to?

I don't shrink mine for flickr.
I know some people talk about sharpening their pictures before uploading to allow for the softening that happens online.

Same here.

When I upload to Flickr it just takes my image as it is - so the full image is hosted.

When I post on here - I then tend to choose the full size although Yop shrinks it - but Flickr gives me all sizes from a wee thumnail to the full image..

Thanks, I'll try this in future...

I have my own hosting space, so I tend to upload them to there as opposed to Flickr, perhaps I'll experiment a bit with the likes of Flickr

Re: What do you resize to?

I resize to 690 px wide (select the crop tool - put 690 px in width - select ALL of the pic, then either hit enter to resize all the photo or hold down shift and bring any of the corners in to crop as you see fit). Then I add a little sharpening to compensate for the reduction in size (about 21 on smart sharpen). Then I resize for web at around 60 or 70.

should I be resizing? I don't at the moment
