Meet Coco the British shorthair

Coco came to us under odd circumstances as a tiny malformed 3-4 week old British shorthair kitten. She was left over a bank holiday while the breader decided her fate. However my wife decided to bring her home so we could look after her over the long weekend, instead of being shut in a strange cage away from her mother for the first time.

She has deformed short back legs and her bum nearly touches the ground, plus a curly tail, but despite her physical short comings she had a wonderful amount of playful energy just like most normal kittens have.

Needless to say toilet times were very messy and she had to be bathed after each time she did a number two, but we still fell under her spell and were determined to home her if the breader would allow us to.

Anyway, she is now 3 years old and lead a normal life. She no longer needs to be washed thankfully, or carried every where, she can run, walk and play with our other cats. The only thing she is unable to do is jump up onto things. We love her to bits and she sleeps on the bottom of our bed each night.

So here are just a few of the pictures, taken over the three years:

What a nice story, and good on you both for having the patience to see this one through.

I love her pose and expression in the second picture...really cute

Good to hear that she's getting on great

I find her condition very upsetting for me Ken. I know you have her best interests at heart, but I personally couldnt keep a Cat that couldnt even jump onto the sofa. I wish her all the luck in the world and I still want to see the photos of her and littermates, of course I do, I just dont agree with keeping pets with severe deformities.

Re: Meet Coco the British shorthair

Thanks for the reply Dawn, I'm sorry if the post has upset you in any way, but please be reassured that Coco is a very, very happy cat. I can appreciate your point of view though and to some extent I do agree with you, how ever Coco seems totally unaware of her own disability and now leads a 98% normal life, she walks and runs and gets up/down the stairs just fine. But when I'm sat in a chair she comes up to my leg and taps it with her front paw, to ask to come up on my lap.

Re: Meet Coco the British shorthair

Aww what a nice story Ken, and good on you and Mrs TT for taking her on

Imo, so long as the animal is not in pain or distress, then I think it's a very kind act to rescue them and put in the time and effort to look after and raise them.

Re: Meet Coco the British shorthair

The vets are lucky to have a caring Mrs TT on their staff Ken! (Did you see that panorama 'it shouldn't happen at a vets'?)

I think the world is a nicer place with people like your wife in it - I wish there were more caring and considerate people like her around.
