Tip please for photographing an art project - today!

My kid's school are undertaking an art project this week inspired by 'field' by Antony Gormley:
Example here

I have been asked to take the photos, firstly of the kids working and then of the final project.
This is a bit scary for me as I am used to taking hundreds of photos for myself in the hope that at least one comes out, but if it doesn't it is no big deal. This however needs to go well!

Any thoughts on lenses, lighting etc?
I'll be in fairly gloomy classrooms so my flash will want to go off (and I have no idea how to stop that). Should I therefore stick a big flash on the top and point that away from the kids? Or should I just stick something over my flash? Or in fact should I just let my flash go off?
Would my 50mm be the best lens to use for the kids working?
What about for the final project? I have my a wide agle lens somewhere, would that work?

Oh dear! I'm overthinking it now!

The pictures of the project are fine, but I'm not pleased with the ones of the kids working. I think I am trying too hard with the processing.
The perfectionist in me wants them to be stunning but I know the school will be thrilled with any old snaps so I need just to stop fiddling!

Re: Tip please for photographing an art project - today!

I've stuck a few shots of the project in my 52!
As its from a school I thought I'd better not put too many in or any of the kids.
