If you think about it - it doesn't matter whether it's indoors or outdoors.

What you need is 'stability' and 'light'

At 1:1 you can manage things to a degree but at 5:1 it gets a bit (excuse my French)....anal.

Going back to what I was saying........

Indoor, obviously gives you still conditions BUT - even the calmest day at extreme macro (outside) looks like a cyclone through this lens. Upping the shutter speed obviously helps but light falls away.

I keep saying ringflash but it really is that simple.

Indoor - yes you can pile on the lights and go for long exposures and get great images (I guess) of still subjects such as coins, dead bugs, biro nibs and needles but so what. It's fun in terms magnification but you will soon be bored.

Outdoor is where I would want to really see amazing macro results and whilst this is the lens that pushes the magnification - it's the 'bonkers' folk that get the best from it.

DOF is so shallow that those amazing images you see are a result of dozens of images 'stacked' to create just one pic in focus.

Me - I'd be more than happy with a lens that could photograph a bumble bee or a daisy at 1:1 and leave the micro folk to it.

Re: Post a Pic: ID challenge

The reason that windscreens are good (apparently) is the uncluttered background, they stick there still and unmelting as individual flakes rather than just a clump of snow.
Anyway we have drifted off track!!!!

Has anyone else got a nice macro for us to ID?
