Re: Show me a good monitor.

The price you found was not bad - I'd ring Dell up anyway and knock off £30 and say you found the exact same model at that price and see if they price match. But $279 works out at £190 so that's pretty decent anyway! Goodluck!

I would seriously consider getting this one... anyone who's serious about photography should get a decent monitor, or what they work on isn't really going to be very accurate, not only will the colours most likely be off, but you'll be missing so many of them anyway due to the monitors inability to display them.
Nooooooo to "in yer face" Too big.

Re: Show me a good monitor.

Dawn, look what you have started LOL

I know exactly where you are coming from about the 17" being a nice size and not huge, I suppose it depends where you have your PC too.
Part of the reason I want a bigger one, is so I can watch Ashes to Ashes on BBCiplayer, and other TV shows I love, Gavin and Stacey etcbut it will be only used by me, so it makes sense to have one geared up to photography.

Re: Show me a good monitor.

Is your current monitor a CRT? If so there won't be that much of a difference in size. Esp height wise.

Go to PC world and check them out. A square 17" tft monitor will give you smaller text than a 17" crt monitor. The widescreen 22" will give you a more readable text size, closer to a 17" crt monitor.

Re quality - as I said before, there are very few non-tn panels in smaller monitor sizes as those are usually aimed at non-professionals (although you could look for reviews of the Dell 2009 and see if they say it's not a TN panel - but the text will be smaller in that).

Personally I wouldn't touch a TN panelled monitor while they are fine for most consumers they are not for anyone serious about graphical work.

Up to you Also, re JR's monitor? see this

Moonie & Phil - get that 22" Dell I posted, it looks super - if I was buying a 22" monitor that's the one I'd get

Re: Show me a good monitor.

Thanks Azz.
The one I have is a good few years old, but was a decent one at the time.

It seems to be doing the job, but I just thought it was maybe time for a better one.

Re: Show me a good monitor.

Just looked on the Dell site and the smaller 2009 is a TN panel so I wouldn't get that. That LG is a TN panel - you can tell from the viewing angles.

Just get the 2209WA
