Also make sure it's a genuine grip as some cheaper copies have got stuck on the bottom of the camera and had to be cut off.
Compared to things I've been called by some, grumps is fine

Re: Battery Grips

The weight of an added grip is not to be taken lightly (no pun intended). I tried one on my 5d and 5d mkII for a couple of gundog field tests and the weight with the body, f2.8 70-200mm lens and grip was crrippling when having to follow the dogs through cover and up and down hills.

For my use the extra weight outweighed any of the other benefits and I very seldom use them now and never use them for gundog trials.

Re: Battery Grips

I didn't see this before, I use a grip on my camera more or less all the time, but it does add a lot in weight to an already heavy camera, especially when I use certain lenses. It does help with the balance of the camera, you get a few more frames per second, but if you don't want a larger heavier camera, I would not get/use one.
I look at it as a workout, as you can honestly feel it, if you have carried my camera around all day when gripped.

Re: Battery Grips

Thanks everyone....your input has been totally brilliant.

I have looked at the relative weights and pros and cons you presented and am now thinking maybe not.
