How many weddings have you shot, and got paid.

Bob as you know I did weddings and got paid........................and I used a tripod on the first three thats all.

I understand the paying attention stuff but I am sure if I used it more I would of ended up in hospital having tripped over the damn thing........

I need to be free as a bird....

Re: Tripods...help or hinder?

I have never heard a sensible argument for using a tripod at a wedding. If you have the shakes, stop smoking.

Have to take exception to this statement, I havn't smoked for over 30 years but my hands arn't as steady as they used to be due to old age. I would suggest you think about what your saying before posting. There are many who take photos who through medical conditions are unable to hold a camera steady and the use of a tripod is essential

Don't worry bazza, I've seen his website. His opening photo is a panoramic. Did you use a tripod for that one? By the way, nice snaps.

If you read my posts you will note I am referring to wedding photographers, not landscape or anyone else. If as a result of medical conditions a person is unable to hold a camera steady which means they can only work with a tripod then they should absolutely not be a wedding photographer. Do you really think it is acceptable to have everyone at a wedding waiting around while a person fumbles about with a tripod? Of course not. Steady hands and the ability to work fast without a tri-pod is a requirement of the job.

No, what makes you think that?

Your were inferring that it is only smoking that gives someone an unsteady hand. This is totally untrue, there are many reasons which can cause this, not just smoking.

Re: Tripods...help or hinder?

Has anybody though of tying a piece of twine to the camera and attaching the other end to a bean bag - then just drop the bean bag on the floor, step on it and pull the twine taut. Instant monopod.

Re: Tripods...help or hinder?

I don't think anybody is right or wrong, down to individual style, lots of wedding photographers don't use tripods, none that I have shot with have so far, but they have all been documentary style, which is what I prefer. Again individual choice and style.

I do own a tripod, and a monopod, and use them for long exposures and landscapes, I know a lot of people use them for still life and macro, but I don't as my hands are steady and I work better feeling free, for want of a better word.

Richard - Nice website, really nicely laid out and clean, great work too
