Re: D300 vs D90?

The D700 is a path to having to buy more expensive lenses. If you look in the forums at people with full frame cameras like the 700 they are selling each other secondhand £600 to £1000 glass. The 700 is less forgiving of cheaper glass. I nearly bought one a few days ago but me too feeling guilty as the other half doesn't know half what I spend on cameras and other interests! It's a path to bankruptcy! Glass before food and Jack Daniels...a downward spiral all for a few photographs!

Re: D300 vs D90?

When you get into high end, then yeah you can't have cheap glass - otherwise your camera is wasted.

My dream kit is:

Nikon D3X (Or I'd make do with D3, D700, or D400 when it comes out, if I had to)

Nikkor 50mmg - £293
Nikkor 24-70 - £1198
Nikkor 70-200 - £1439
Nikkor 14-24 - £1279
Nikkor 105mm - £693

Lens Total Alone = £4902

And maybe the 85mm and a super long lens... if I won the lottery
Kit 1
Nikon D300
Nikon 55-200mm VR
Kit 2
Nikon D40
Nikon 18-55mm
My Compact/P&S: Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Re: D300 vs D90?

I'm a bit late on the thread Moonie but often on paper the specs of new lower range models 'overtake' the specs of older higher range models as it's the lower range models that get the features first.

To be honest it's down to how they feel in your own hands but for me (and I'm talking cameras here) I'd go for the best built body then concentrate on lenses as fancy new features will be old hat 34 mins later regardless of what you choose.
Kit 1

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2

Re: D300 vs D90?

Well the latest rumours are that a worker in bestbuy in the US has reported that the D300 has been discontinued.

That doesn't really make sense as the D200 kept selling well into the D300's life... but who knows, maybe it's true

Re: D300 vs D90?

Suzi if i were in your position i would opt for the D200 and use the extra cash for new glass. Dont over look that camera - its wicked and loads of pros still use it!

Re: D300 vs D90?

Don't expect prices to drop....

Nikon has announced that it had revised its profit forecast for the year ended 31 March 2009, to ¥28,000. This represents a change of +4,000 yen, or +16.7%, over the previous forecast. On the other hand, it is still a 63% decline versus last year, blamed on the global economic slowdown triggered by the global financial crisis, as well as the appreciation of the yen and a decline of the stock market.
