Thanks for the advice Greyhawk, the bee and me were in a tree, the bee about 2 feet above me so although I will try to put your advice into practise it would on this occasion have been difficult.
Think the main problem is I went out to photograph the blossom, saw butterflies and decided to take some shots of them which I did but then I saw the bees and got greedy and tried for shots of the bees too, one step to far and my preparations were not as they should have been.
I am not experienced enough to make snap decisions on things like aperture and shutter speed so need to think about it in advanced. Find the correlation between the aperture and the shutter speed difficult to predict, I am hoping it is something I will get accustomed to and will then be able shoot things like bees more successfully. I resist the temptation to let the camera take over because there are occasions when I am sure it would do a far better job than I do.
