Re: European Grey Wolves

Wonderful shots DJ! Especially the top one

When you get some time, would you be able to do a comparison review of the 50D and the 5D Mark II (or just your thoughts on the two of them would be great

What ISO and shutter speed did you use on these shots?

Thanks Gh. The shooting details were

#1 1/1600sec, ISO 320 and f5.6
#2 1/2000sec ISO 320 and f5.6
#3 1/2000sec ISO 320 and f5.6

My thoughts just now on 50d Vs 5dMKII is that the 50d is a sports/wildlife shooter and the 5d is the ultimate landscaper

The 50d is a great allrounder and can produce quality results whatever you use it for - wildlife-birds and landscapes. There is a problem though when shooting above f8 for landscapes, as diffraction creeps in, which will cause a softness in images. especially near the edge, which I have noticed. However, I have shot many landscape images above f8 with the 50d and while you can notice a little softness (if you are really pixel peeping at near 100% mag) around the edges, overall, they are still excellent images IMO.

Having used the 5d MKII for only a few days i'm blown away with the IQ and detail at 100%, it's an amazing camera. I'll still keep my 50d with 400mm attached for wildlife shots, as they both produce excellent images

Here is another shot of the Wolves taken with the 5dmkii and my 70-200mm
(1/1600sec @ f4.0)
Kit 1
Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L
Canon 70-200mm f4.0 L
Canon 17-40mm f4.0 L
Kit 2

Re: European Grey Wolves

Very nice,

The one thing that stands out for me is that none of the high spots (the white parts) are over exposed, something that is tricky when photographing white fur on animals that are many shades.

Nice set of images.

Alan.
