Re: Orion and Flame nebulae

Thanks for the comments everyone

I fixed the grinding-crunching of the mounts gears problem, when slewing, it was the end float adjustment which needed to be slackened off a tad. It only happened when the mount was in the cold as i had tested it continuously ( after tweaking) for hours indoors. I altered it in the cold and tested for an hour and it's back to normal operation now.

So, that was the grinding cured but I had to solve the GOTO (slewing) accuracy as it was way off. To cut a long story short, there was a few bugs in the firmware I was using and Ive now installed the latest firmware to eliminate the mounts slewing inaccuracy.

Next time I'll take multiple exposures and stack them, that way the core of the nebulae won't be burned out and I'll get much more detail as well. There are only a few objects in the sky that work ok with single shot exposures but most require multiple exposures at various lengths to get a decent ammount of detail.

Re: Orion and Flame nebulae

Thanks Ken/Bc. The motherboard/controller board on my telescope mount has since fried and a replacement will cost around £50, so needless to say I've not been doing much stargazing or star imaging lately
