No Bike For Bobby This Week

I've got to chuckle at what is happening right now. Our area is getting hammered by record low temperatures and a dire prediction for 6 inches of additional snow coming Thursday and even more, a foot, next Saturday. No high temperatures will even reach the freezing point as we will plunge to 10 degrees at night. My bike will just have to stay where it's at until this all thaws out. I'm glad I have a reliable car. I still may not be able to get around as Oregon doesn't use rock salt on any roads, only a chemical treatment effective to 20 degrees.

Re: No Bike For Bobby This Week

Poor Bob

You must be itching for your bike.

We're very lucky here in Scotland. Despite the UK being a small place it amazes me how Scotland and England diifer so much in their respective handling of winter conditions.

I am English but sometimes I watch the news and 'cringe'. Whenever an inch or so of snow falls or the temp drops below zero in England for a few days we (Scotland) are bombarded with weather warnings and travel news despite the fact that we're used to it.

England has much busier roads than Scotland and on the whole the weather is kinder so I appreciate that when the bad weather arrives it causes more disruption but it does make us chuckle.

Every October we get a leaflet through the door showing a map of the whole of Perthshire. The map shows all the gritter/salter routes for both roads and pavements and from what I can gather they deliver their promises.

I remember back in 1995 - we hit -27 degrees C. Salt does lower the freezing temp but It was so ccccccold I couldn't get into my car. The news told us to stay at home as England had snow LOL. Our roads were perfect but I worked from home that day because I couldn't get into my car.

Re: No Bike For Bobby This Week

Sunday's storm was so dangerous nobody got out and was mostly house bound. Tomorrow's snow storm is supposed to be worse. I'm still off from work tomorrow so I'll experience the whole thing happen. I spent today cleaning my car and unfreezing the door locks. I'm ready & not thinking motorcycle.

Re: No Bike For Bobby This Week

In the UK the weather people always seem to err on the side of caution ever since they got it wrong about the high winds in 1987 when several people were killed and injured. On my route to work it only seems to have to drizzle rain and suddenly there are tailbacks of heavy traffic. The winter amazes me. At the first sign of any snow, school heating always seems to break down and the teachers can't make it in whilst the rest of us are expected to turn up to our jobs. The UK is too soft and cautious, ill prepared and under-resourced for many things.

Hope you get to enjoy that bike sometime Bob.

Re: No Bike For Bobby This Week

Thanks for your concern. The itch has completely gone as this horrible weather is decending upon us. There's not even a little thought about riding my new motorcycle in a snowstorm. I'm cumfy & warm in my sweatclothes and hot cup of tea.
