Theme of the month questions

You know I'm awkward! Why 5 or more? Could I suggest 1 to a mazimum of 5? We want to encourage all the members that are new into photography to participate but not for any one member to flood the forum and discourage others from posting? I can take millions of pictures - and you wouldn't want them all in one thread now would you Whereas other people may only pull together one idea initially - and will gain more confidence as time goes on...

Maybe with the 'themes' we could also select two 'non-entering' volunteers each month to exchange views via the PM system, and come up with a monthly 'winner' - giving a short summary as to why they think their chosen winning shots deserve this accolade. They would have to agree between them on one best selection, looking at the pros and cons of all entries. The advantage of two volunteers is that you'll get a balanced view.

What are your thoughts?

I think 'Numbers' is a great theme to start with though... I'm sure it'll attract some interesting pictures!

Re: Theme of the month questions

Lol you are an awkward customer

1 is not enough really, at the bare minimum I'd say at least 3 (otherwise it's just the same as topic of the week)

We have a competition section where perhaps one month (or week) the competition could be a theme? If we turn this section into a competition section, some people may be put off it, as not everyone likes to be judged in that way..?

Re: Theme of the month questions

I was wondering why we had topic of the week and theme of the month. As time moves on (and it will) if you stick with topic of the week, subject matter will eventually become harder to consider without repeating yourself. I know of some camera clubs that have difficulty choosing 12 monthly subjects - never mind 52 weekly ones! I like the idea of theme of the month - maybe we could open a poll to see what members think about 2 non-entering volunteers choosing their favourite shot - giving why they like it, and whether they prefer weekly, fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly events.

If there were for example 20 entries - then only 1 (the winner) would get a C&C - so I don't think it would discourage others from entering - but maybe a poll and discussion could help answer that

Just think that if we have a theme section, a topic section and a competition section - maybe a bit much to keep a track as the site grows? (Only an opinion - I know you're the master lol)

Re: Theme of the month questions

I think it's ok for the time being, going by no-one else minds.... so far.

If a lot of people think we need to change it then I'm happy to go along with it (what does everyone else think?). Perhaps we can look at it again in the future when we go 'live', at the mo we're just experimenting... and having a bit of fun along the way

Re: Theme of the month questions

Only time will tell, and I'm happy to go along with whatever, how does that help you I like the thought of 5 items, and love the thought of going out (figurativly speaking) and looking for these 5 things, and seeing how everyone else interprets things, but 3 would be just a good, as I suspect some topics people (me) may struggle to find 5 of, as for the weekly topic, again thats great, it gives me something to think about, gets my brain ticking over, and again is a great way of seeing others interpretations, and, not being very imaginative or experienced myself, it gives me some great ideas on what to strive for and what one day I may achieve It is also a great excuss not to get any housework done

Re: Theme of the month questions

If you do a monthly comp you could get a member to be the comp administrator and at the end of every month everyone has 1 vote and the pm it to the admin person, the only rule being you can't vote for yourself. to get the monthly comp themes we could do a poll and schedule say the next 6 months theme i.e October - B&W November - People etc etc
