Re: Have you got paid for your work?

Oh and I must say, I have been looking into wedding photographers for a while and several so called professionals leave a lot to be desired. Several had blown highlights etc (and it wasn't their style or anything). Mind you I probably horrified some of them when I asked what equipment they used, do they have a back up body etc

IMO the photography is one of the most important parts of the wedding and not something to be done on the cheap.

IMO a professional is someone who does photography for a living (or as a major income earner).

I do not see people who sell the odd print as being professionals

This is where the line becomes hazy. You are still advertsing your services at a price. Now if i, like many others saw your business card or website, one would assume you are capable with your equipment and are a pro

Re: Have you got paid for your work?

Well this is the ? Jols

I dont think you are confident enough with your equipment to say you are, but yet you advertise your services as one..........

Re: Have you got paid for your work?

I'd say professionalism in many fields would usually mean you're in some way qualified (through an academic route or solid experience) to do what you're saying you can do.

Re: Have you got paid for your work?

I think a pro is someone who can deliver what the client wants, usually through a very good understanding of their trade. That means knowing how to take good photographs technically. Obviously the most talented will stand out (just like in any industry) and the ones that will be in demand the most.

For example, a client may want buildings photographed for a brochure - the photos need not only represent the buildings in the best possible light (and maybe even in a certain way), but they must also bear in mind these images will be used for print, in a brochure (so images may be quite small). So careful consideration must be paid to that.

The last thing I would want is someone with a non-dslr to take a bunch of pics and simply hope for the best

and offer services when they have no exprience of that service but still charge
