Re: Still life

The sweets are not the best choice, to be honest. The colouring is just dappled enough to cause you to either under-expose the colour pigments or over expose the white flecks.

In truth I was going to use a plate of really pretty iced cakes. But they seem to have *urp!* disappeared somewhere...

Re: Still life

I actually did the *not straight* thing deliberately. I had thought it may look *arty*...actually it looks like I couldn't be bothered to straighten it.

As for the darkness, it was a compromise...I wanted the direct, fairly harsh lighting to accentuate the transparency of the glass, but didn't want to blow out the colours and flecks of the sweets. I may re-set the shot (if there are any sweets left...) when I have some time, and try with a different lighting/reflecting technique...this is all trial and (mainly) error on my part

Thanks for the C&Cs

Re: Still life

I see where you're coming from with the darkness.

I think if you could define more in the stem and bottom of the glass you'd be onto a winner lighting wise. That's the only area for me that I would like to see more light in.

Great idea though, you're giving me plenty of ideas for still life.... I sit here most of the time, wanting to use my camera and rarely doing so! Perhaps we should have a shoot-the-sweetie competition
