This is known as a red handed tamarin. I have no idea why because his hands are a golden yellow. His fur blends in with the tree limbs around him making for a great defense mechanism.

What a stunner Bob - love the colour

This was shot at 6400 ISO with a D7000, which has always been a great low light camera. The directional overhead light made for this dramatic pose much more appealing.

I've learned my best work involves low light photography. I never use flash. I used to shoot weddings & family portraits in film days. I know how to use lighting from studio equipment. With today's Hi-ISO sensors I don't need to use artificial light. In film days we used to call it color shift. It's the warm, earth tones you get when shooting available light that appeals to me.

I actually had a very good photographer criticize the photo because the animal in it is living in captivity. I pointed out to him that all zoo animals in the United States are born in zoos and not taken from the wild. If you've seen photographs of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat you'd notice they're not nearly in such good condition.

I think perhaps those who complain complain because the animal isn't as challenging to photograph as it would be in the wild. I personally think that this is nonsense, while you don't have the fieldcraft element, the onus is on you to create a much more punchy and drawing image because of the captive situation. A favourite photographer of mine is Britta Jaschinski, and her work really pushes the boundaries when it comes to captive animals.

Great title, I give most of my pictures a name, it comes automatically. This chap could be the leader of the troop leading his people to new lands. Perfect pose and composition.
