Finally used the Photographer's Ephemeris
I finally used the Photographer's Ephemeris to plan this shot that I took on the way into work this morning. Although I didn't get up as early as I would have liked for this shoot 
.

Note also the projected moon's position.
And the resulting shot that you may have seen in the other post:
Next time I'm shooting at a track or air show I will use it to work out my days movements according to the suns position relative to the track.

Thanks for all the replies. The only weakness I can see is it doesn't tell me whether the sun is going to put in an appearance
