Colourising in Photoshop

I've tried many times to colourise a b&w photo in Photoshop and failed miserably, this time I think I may have found the right way to do it......

This is the original (my Mum & Dads wedding by the way ) after scanning into the computer.......



And this is the colourised version, there's still a bit of work I need to finish on it).......

Thanks Dave & DaisyChains It was really quite easy to do using layers, but this shot was very time consuming as each colour has its own layer & there were lots of colours!!
