Spare Batteries

Hey everyone,

I'm going on holiday in a month or so and am looking to buy a spare battery for my Nikon D5000. I have no major issues with the battery that it came with and would normally just take the battery charger with me but we're going to be living on a sailing boat for a week so electricity use might be limited!

My question is when buying a spare battery do you buy a branded battery or do you buy cheaper alternatives? I've looked at the Nikon ones at £24 which i don't think is too bad but also looked at Energizer's alternative at £18 and then of course the much cheaper alternatives.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Spare Batteries

Have a look at the Maplin's or similar web site for a solar charger.

I got a second battery for my 600D from Premier Inks....£15.99. Keep in the cam while the Canon battery recharges.

Re: Spare Batteries

I got a spare from ebay. Half the price of a genuine one... but only last half as long. Good for a spare though.

Re: Spare Batteries

I don't mind Ebay if you know that you are buying a third party pattern part, fake or copy so long as you know in advance and can make an informed decision. Sometimes even the ad text states it is genuine but you only know from the price or the product on arrival it isn't. Seems to me it is flooded with dodgy fakes now particularly dodgy filters, altered capacity memory cards and batteries. Should clean up their rip off act
