Get out of your comfort zone

Sometimes when we have lost our photography mojo, we need a bit of a shake up, to get those ideas flowing again. Get out of your comfort zone.

• Always shoot people, then try something different.
  
  
• Always shoot with a tripod, go handheld.
  
  
• Go into your gear bag,and grab your least used lens, and make yourself use it for at least a week, and no other lens.
  
  
• Always shoot in the country, the head into the city and vice versa.
  
  
• Prefer to use natural light, get out that flash gun.
  
  
• Getting surfing, and find a blog, of someone who is completely different in style to you, and learn more about their type of shooting. Then give it a go.
  
  
• Still shooting in Auto, turn that dial, and never look back.
  
  
• Go somewhere new, sometimes just being in different surroundings can inspire you, to shoot things you would never of thought of before.
  
  
• Ask a stranger if you can take their portrait.
  
  
• Approach a local band, ask them if they need some publicity shots.
  
  
• Go and buy a fabulous photography book, of a photographer you admire, then choose an image and try and recreate it.
  
  
• Choose your fave movie, as the jumping point, to make an image, that to you, represents that movie.
  
  
• What's you favourite CD cover, can you recreate that?
  
  
• Always shoot in the daytime, then read up about night photography, then go and photograph some atmospheric night shots.
  
  
• Start a 365 or 52 weeks project, there is a wonderful one on the forum
  
  
• Do you have a passion besides photography, go and shoot a photo essay , using it as a subject.
  
  
• Love animals, go to your local rescue place, and ask about taking some nice pics for them, to help rehome animals .
  
  
• Decide on a photography theme, and shoot using that theme for a week, a month, whatever you feel like, and then put the images in a photo book.
  
  
• Find some like minded togs in your area, and meet up for photo walks, coffee, and just hanging out, with other photography geeks, can often inspire you
  

I'll be adding more to the list as time goes on. Try stepping out of your comfort zone, every so often, can really spark new ideas, and change your direction, when you are feeling stuck in a rut.

Loving some of those - you know how many times you've helped me get out of a funk, so this list is great. Your alphabet photography thing actually really made me get some of the photos I love most in the last 6 months-year.

Another one...what about going on a photo adventure with a friend? Sometimes it's nice to be inspired together

I decided, I'm going to concentrate more on street photograhy.
