Re: Nikon D7000 and other Nikon goodies..

It will be interesting to see what people make of it, I am not sure who it's marketed at though?

Personally I love my 51 AF points, so wouldn't want to drop to 39, those sort of things are more important to me than more MP's.

It's the same 6fps as my D300,but gripped I think I get 8 or 9, think the D300s is even faster.

The other thing I don't understand, dual card slots, why SD cards and not CF? so another reason why it wouldn't appeal, as I'd have to buy a load of new cards.

The video function does look wonderful, but it's not something I'd really use, but can see it's appeal if it is your thing.

On a camera that is over a Grand, why would you want an Auto button, if you are willing to spend that much, surely, you'd be a bit camera savvy? it's a sort of mixed messages camera

Am interested to see what people think of it though, as you say Phil.

I am more excited by the lovely new 35mm

Re: Nikon D7000 and other Nikon goodies..

After reading the initial reviews from authors I trust, like Ken Rockwell, I'm interested because it takes my 11 point D90 to 39 focal points. My photography have improved greatly since learning how to use variable focal points. The extra megapixels don't hurt either as I routinely use 4 gig SD cards with spares in my bag. Now with twin SD slots I can add one more spare and shoot forever. I'm sure the extra card slot is for folks who are on holiday and wish to shoot video on one card and photos on the other. The autofocus video capabilty is a must.

Ken Rockwell rates the new D7000 better than the D90 & D300s. It's an affordable upgrade for $1200 to get a D7000 and slap that 18-200mm on it forever. I've got the lenses, filters and two remotes that will work with the D7000.

Re: Nikon D7000 and other Nikon goodies..

You will have to give an indepth review, once you've got it

Hope it's everything you want

I'm not sure about Ken Rockwell , someone pointed me towards him when I got my camera, and told me his word was Nikon God, so read all his stuff, set up my camera like he advised, and ended up with some very strange pictures

I would take what rockwell says with a pinch of salt too - didn't he think the D90 was better than the D300s?

Ken's quote:

The Nikon D90 is a fantastic camera. It's Nikon's newest and best DX format DSLR. I prefer it to the old D300, which costs almost twice as much. That's the way it goes with digital cameras: new is almost always better, even for much less cost. The D90 has identical, or slightly better technical image quality than the D300, the exact same rear LCD, and adds several very useful ergonomic features for faster handling compared to the D300. These handling improvements will let you react faster to conditions, meaning you're more likely to get better pictures by being better prepared.
If you're considering a D300, forget it. Get the D90 instead

There are lots of photographers on American Photography forums that think Ken Rockwell is nuts. He's offering opinions which are like noses, everybody has one.

Dual Card slots tended to be a function of Pro Cameras. If you feel the need you can write to both at the same time so you get two copies of everything. It's a form of backing up as you shoot that's all.

Of course you can just fill one and then switch to the other if you want.

You can also use the camera to copy the contents of your card onto another card.

The camera I have has dual slots - strangely one is Compact Flash and the other is SD.

I just use CF though.
