Portland Chinese Garden

This was my first trip to the Portland Chinese. It wasn't too expensive getting in, $8.50, but it was $7.50 for parking. It adds up too quick.

This is a beautiful place but very small. They don't open until 10:00 in the morning and there are no special hours for members. That means you don't have the best lighting conditions. It was super sunny making it tough to deal with the highlights and shadows. I wound up shooting everything in HDR to compensate. I like the indoor shots in HDR.

Re: Portland Chinese Garden

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen was in Bejing, and that was the place where the Chinese Emporers ate. This "palace" was right in the centre of the most amazing oriental park with ornate bridges over the lakes to get there.

The pictures by Bob remind me so much of that wonderful trip and how I wish I could do it all over again but over 2/3 weeks instead of the rushed 8 days we had.

Having said that those pictures depict the typical type of peace and tranquility places to be found in China just around from a main street.

So obviously getting down to commenting on the pictures I do like them very much, needless to say.

Just a quick photo of the inside where we ate a 16 course meal, and yes that is gold leaf on everything.

Re: Portland Chinese Garden

As I go to these places locally I've been buying memberships for a year. I'm glad I decided to just pay the normal entry fee as I see nothing else to photograph there. It's too small, too expensive with the parking and too crowded. I got there a half hour before the 10:00 a.m. opening and the tiny garden was crawling with tourists. It took 5-10 minutes to get them out of the frame sometimes. The late opening time turned me off as well. I doubt I return.

Re: Portland Chinese Garden

What a lovely place Bob - and some nice shots there.

Would be great if you could do some tests with your primes vs the 18-200, would be interested to see how they compare on the same shots.

It would be nice to get some feedback on the over PP thing as it's something we all do.

I removed the two photos where I post processed because I did a sloppy job. The remaining three are 3-photo HDR renderings with no post processing at all.
