Help with Piccie!

I want to remove the background completely from this picture but I'm having trouble doing it to my satisfaction (I'm a Virgo!) I have Photoshop Elements on this machine and Photoshop CS2 on my other machine.
Any tips on how to do it?

Re: Help with Piccie!

You could try doing a layer mask and mask out the background then use the smudge tool on the mask to smudge back in the fur on the outline of the pup

I tend to use masks instead of just deleting the background as it ives me more room to make adjustments

Re: Help with Piccie!

in Photoshop CS, select the layer you want to mask (if its the background image, double click on the layer to make it into and editable layer).

Click on the icon that is a rectangle with a circle inside it (if you hover your pointer over it it will say layer mask). This will make a new layer next to your exisiting layer. Make sure this layer is selected (otherwise you'll end up painting on your image). To see is it is selected you will see it is outlined.

Using a black brush start to paint over the image in the layer mask. To show part of the image again, paint over it with a white brush

(not very good at explaining things lol but have a go, you can also follow the help tutorials in photoshop)

Re: Help with Piccie!

Right, I didn't understand any of that lol! When I make a new layer one is going to be the picture and one is going to be 'empty' yes?
